Melbourne, June 29, 2011 – The Australasian Sandwich Association (ASA), a newly formed café and sandwich industry body has today announced Matt Wilkinson, Co-owner of Pope Joan in Brunswick East, Victoria, as the Southern Final winner of the Great Australian Sandwichship.
The Great Australian Sandwichship is the only foodservice competition of its kind in Australia: it seeks to highlight the work of Australia’s true lunch-time heroes - café workers and sandwich makers – and see who can create the best sandwich.

Sydney, September 23, 2011 - The Australasian Sandwich Association (ASA), a newly formed café and sandwich industry body has today announced Sally Carr, Managing Director of Bread'n'Spread from Miranda, as the Northern Final winner of the Great Australian Sandwichship.
Competing at Fine Food Sydney against five of the best sandwich makers from across Australia's northern states, Sally won narrowly against her competition. Key to her victory was the creativity of her menu which included her Breakfast Burrito (made from ingredients including homemade salsa, Virginia ham and a Mexican omelette), which won an award in the "Wrap" category.

2010 saw the inaugural year of The Great Australian Sandwichship at the FSA Exhibition in Darling Harbour, Sydney. Eleven passionate competitors battled it out for the title of Australian Sandwich Champion. The winner, Adam D'Sylva from Coda Restaurant in Melbourne, was not only awarded the title of Australian Sandwich Champion but won a trip for two to London to represent Australia against the British Sandwich Designer of the Year.
The competition was a great success and exceeded expectations of all involved. The event produced a fun, energetic and engaging experience of the senses for competitors and audience alike. The quality of entries and the enthusiasm, dedication and camaraderie of the competitors made for remarkable day.
